To ensure device security and to eliminate possible fraud, no physical access to the payment terminal chassis is allowed. When the chassis is opened, magnetic contact points on the circuit board separate and the terminal locks into Tamper mode. All functionality is blocked and all security keys in the terminal are erased.
After the terminal enters Tamper mode, only two actions are possible:
  1. If you are uncertain about whether the terminal was tampered with, return it to PAX US for inspection. If factory inspection does not find any indication of tampering, factory technicians will clear Tamper mode, reset the terminal, and return it to you.
  2. If you are certain that the terminal was compromised, destroy it. If factory technicians find evidence of tampering during inspection, they will destroy the terminal because it cannot be repaired and it will not be allowed back into operation.
