Introduction to the eCheck Service

The eCheck payment service enables merchants to accept electronic check payments using a variety of methods, including mail, telephone, and online orders.
There are two main types of eCheck transactions:
  • A charge is initiated to take money from a customer's bank account and transfer it to the merchant's bank account. Most eCheck transactions are ACH charges.
  • A credit or refund is initiated to transfer money back to the customer's bank account.

Requirements for Using the eCheck Service

The eCheck service is available to eligible Visa Acceptance Solutions merchants that meet one of these two requirements:
  • US citizens or residents who are at least 18 years of age and have been issued a Social Security number.
  • United States or foreign-based corporations that use the eCheck services only for customers using US bank accounts and that hold and maintain a bank account in the United States with a US-based financial institution.
