Global Velocity
Global velocity enables you to determine whether any repeated instance of an element
suggests fraud. The available elements are email address, shipping address, account
number, IP address, and device fingerprint.
Each cell is a test. When tests run at predetermined intervals, some repeated elements
are detected. When these elements appear during several tests, the risk of fraud
increases significantly. Running tests frequently causes patterns of fraud to become
more visible. Within each time interval, surveillance is discontinued when suspicious
orders do not repeat. The actual intervals appear random so that customers cannot
discern the beginning and end of test intervals.
By default, account numbers and email addresses are verified at the short interval, and
device fingerprint, shipping address, and IP address are not verified.
You can choose as many tests as you want. For maximum fraud detection, choose all
tests.
IMPORTANT
Choose tests according to the normal variations in your customers’
buying patterns. False-positive results can occur when customers make frequent
purchases in a short period of time, such as during the holiday season. Also at that
time, customers might ship their purchases to different addresses as
gifts.
