Each organization has a
type
field that defines the organization’s role in the hierarchy. Two types of organizations are available to the Boarding API. When you create a merchant organization, a corresponding transacting organization is created, and its information is returned in the response. You can create one merchant/transacting combination per API request.

MERCHANT
Represents a legal business entity. For example, if a holding company owns three brands that are legal business entities, the organization representing each brand would be set as a merchant type.
TRANSACTING
The entity that sends payment transactions. It is always a leaf-level or lowest-level organization. Typically, it is a retail or online store.
STRUCTURAL
Conceptual entity used to organize and divide the hierarchy of organizations. Enables you to apply rules, product subscriptions, and configurations to a grouping of all child organizations beneath the structural organization. You can also use it for reporting purposes.
